66 Wind Turbines of Huaneng Yuntaishan Wind Farm Have Been Removed! The Loss Exceeds 800 Million RMB!

Abstract: Huaneng Yuntaishan wind farm is located in a nature reserve in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Due to the construction of the wind farm touching the red line of ecological protection and not rectified in time, the 66 wind turbines in the wind farm have been completely removed by the end of 2019, and vegetation restoration has been carried out here.

The construction project of Yuntaishan wind farm was invested by Huaneng Renewables Corporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as Huaneng Renewables). The project was divided into two phases. The first phase of Yuntaishan wind farm project was started on November 14, 2013 and put into production in December 2014; the second phase of Wayao wind farm was started on April 26, 2015 and put into production in June 2016. There were 66 turbines in the project, with an investment of 805.3 million RMB. In 2018, the output value of Yuntaishan wind farm reached 148 million RMB.

The production and operation of Yuntaishan wind farm has been completely stopped on February 19, 2019, and the wind turbine and related facilities have been removed on October 4, 2019. The vegetation restoration work of forest land occupied by the started on October 10, 2019. By the end of December 2019, the demolition and transportation of the facilities have been fully finished. A total of 66 turbines, 184 iron towers and overhead lines have been demolished, and 765mu(≈510000㎡ ) of forest vegetation occupied by the wind farm have been restored. A total of 137 million RMB was invested in the demolition of wind farm facilities and vegetation restoration of occupied woodland.

At present, facilities have been removed and ecological restoration has been carried out at the location where the turbines were installed. Many newly planted trees have survived and sprouted.
