Due to the frequent failure and high operation and maintenance cost, 1 of the 7MW wind turbines which has operated 4.5 years of Fukushima Forward demonstrator project has been dismantled since May 2020.

It is reported that the utilization rate of this 7MW turbine is only 3.7%, far below the commercial utilization rate standard of 30%. The utilization ratio of the other two turbines,5MW and 2MW, are 32.9% and 18.5%, respectively.

On June 24, 2020, Japan announced the first open bidding of floating wind power in history.

The open tender floating project is located in Nagasaki. It is one of the 11 regions selected by Japanese authorities as the most suitable area for developing offshore wind power. The project capacity is not less than 16.8MW, and the on-grid price is 36 yen / kWh (2.39 yuan / kWh).

The invitation for bidding starts from June 24 to December 24, and after screening, the winning bidder will be announced in June 2021. This bidding is the first offshore wind power auction in Japan since the implementation The Renewable Sea Area Utilization Law in April 2019.
